I went Tim Burton-esque on this piece! A little outside my comfort zone, with the straight lines and no distressing – it was an experiment and certainly an improvement on the original bland wood. Wouldn’t you say?

I used my favorite mahogany GEL stain. It’s always a pleasure to use gel stains as they don’t run all over the place like liquid stains do. They go on even and smooth. I taped the lines first and then applied the stain. Once the stain dried, I re-applied the tape to paint the creamy beige color.

Patience and a steady hand help take the tape off without any mess.
And here you have it, a redecorated end table!
